Green Man

Thanks to Jack Drum Arts for a lovely commission to create a puppet for the King's coronation in 2023. Here he is in my studio.

I decided on a green man theme to focus on King Charles's interest in environmental issues.

He is made from willow, and reused materials as much as possible. I enjoyed experimenting with wrapping techniques and different colour ways.

I visited Jack Drum to run some batik waxing and silk painting workshops for the cloak and skirts.

My design is based on elements of medieval imagery and architecture. The face is inspired by the amazing door knocker of Durham cathedral.
